Today is World AIDS Day

Given the social and political climate that has been so prevelent over the past four years, it’s easy to lose track of other things that are important in life, both great things and things we still need to pay attention to and work on. We think this statement from Senator Scott Wiener (D-SF) does a wonderful job reminding us of the importance of today’s designation:

“Forty years into the HIV pandemic, HIV continues to infect and kill people, particularly in low income communities and communities of color. While we have made huge strides in preventing, testing for, and treating HIV, far too many people struggle to access these life-saving tools. We must expand access to PrEP and PEP — powerful HIV preventatives — as well as rapid HIV testing. We must also continue the fight for healthcare access, including shoring up the Affordable Care Act and working toward single-payer healthcare. Working together, we can end new HIV infections and help those living with the virus lead healthy, successful lives.”
