ACLU Sues Mississippi School That Canceled Prom Rather Than Let Lesbian Couple Attendconstance

OXFORD, MS – The American Civil Liberties Union filed a lawsuit today against a Mississippi High School that has canceled prom rather than let a lesbian high school student attend the prom with her girlfriend and wear a tuxedo to the event.  In papers filed with the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Mississippi, the ACLU asks the court to reinstate the prom for all students at the school and charges Itawamba County School District officials are violating Constance McMillen’s First Amendment right to freedom of expression.

Stonewall Unable to Endorse in Two Key Assembly Races

Candidates for Assembly Districts 5 and 9 pled their cases before a packed house of LGBT Democrats, but because the Stonewall Democratic Club rules require a 60 percent vote, no one was able to walk away with the Club’s coveted endorsement.

The Candidates Forum was held on Monday, March 8 and over 150 club members listened as Larry Miles and Dr. Richard Pan, candidates for the 5th Assembly District discussed their qualifications and answered questions from the audience.

Nominations Sought for Four Freedoms Awards

The Sacramento Stonewall Democratic Club, home to Sacramento's LGBT Democrats, are now accepting nominations for their Four Freedoms Awards.

The Four Freedom Awards is the clubs premiere fundraising event. Based on goals set down by Franklin D. Roosevelt, the Four Freedoms recognize the Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Religion, Freedom from Want and Freedom from Fear.
