Kick Off July At The Crest With ‘Monterey Pop’

by Chris Narloch

If you’re not doing anything this Saturday evening, July 1st, I suggest you make plans to see one of the most electrifying concert films ever made, when the historic Crest Theatre screens ‘Monterey Pop’ to celebrate the film’s 50th Anniversary.

The first film of its kind, this inventive classic chronicles the 1967 music festival and the incredible talent that was present: Jimi Hendrix, Otis Redding, The Beach Boys, Jefferson Airplane, Simon and Garfunkel, The Grateful Dead, The Who, The Mamas and the Papas, Big Brother and the Holding Company, The Byrds, and more amazing stars of the day.

The Monterey Pop festival concert film changed the way people thought about music, and it was a precursor to Woodstock and the revolution that went along with it.

The movie has been re-mastered from the original 16mm film, with a new 5.1 surround soundtrack that will allow a milestone event in music and film history to be enjoyed as never before.

This rare, big screen presentation of ‘Monterey Pop’ plays once only, at 7:30 p.m. at Sacramento’s Crest Theatre on K Street.
