Sacramento Activist To Be Honored at Sac. EQCA AwardsTed Ross

Sacramentan Ted Ross will be honored at this year’s Sacramento Equality Awards, that will also recognize the work of Assembly Speaker John A. Pérez and openly gay Bishop V. Gene Robinson.

Ross is a veteran leader in the fight against HIV/AIDS in Sacramento and will be honored for his work helping to establish and sustain the Center for AIDS Research, Education and Services, one of only two comprehensive HIV/AIDS treatment facilities of its kind in the entire country.

Ross is also one of the founders and past presidents of the Capital City AIDS Fund, which annually host the Sacramento Valley AIDS Run/Walk and Oscar Night Sacramento.


Assembly Speaker John A. Pérez will be presented the Equality Legislative Leadership Award for his exceptional leadership in the struggle for LGBT equality.

Speaker Pérez was unanimously elected by his Democratic colleagues to the Speakership, and he is the state’s first openly gay Speaker. He has been a longtime leader in the struggle for LGBT equality and is a vocal advocate for working people and for civil rights for all.

Equality California will also honor Bishop V. Gene Robinson, the first openly gay priest to be ordained a bishop in a major Christian denomination. As a high-ranking member of the clergy, Bishop Robinson has advocated on the state, national and international level for equal protection under the law and for full civil marriage rights for LGBT individuals.

The Sacramento Equality Awards are hosted by Equality California and presented by AT&T and statewide sponsors Blue Angel Vodka and The Ben Patrick Johnson Foundation. The reception includes an open bar courtesy of Blue Angel Vodka and light refreshments will be served.
