HUD Awards $30 Million to HIV-AIDS Housing Programs

More than a thousand extremely low-income persons living with HIV/AIDS will continue to receive permanent housing as a result of $30.2 million in grants announced by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

None of the announced grants were awarded to Sacramento or Northern California agencies, although grants were given to the San Francisco Redevelopment Agency ($1,430,000) and the Bernal Heights Neighborhood Center in San Francisco ($508,420). The City of San Jose Housing Department also received a grant of $1,262,800.

Statement by the President on National HIV Testing DayPresident Obama

This Sunday (June 27, 2010) is National HIV Testing Day, an occasion to raise awareness of the steps each of us can take as individuals to fight HIV/AIDS.  

As we mark this day, I would like to renew my call for all Americans to help reduce the risk of infection by getting tested for HIV and learning their HIV status.  One in five Americans who are currently living with HIV-- more than 230,000 people -- do not know their status.

Sacramento LGBT Community Prepares For Federal Prop 8 RulingJudge Vaughn Walker

Following a five-month hiatus, intriguing closing argument to the Federal lawsuit against California’s Proposition 8 were heard in the U.S. District Court in San Francisco on June 16, and a decision in the case is expected shortly.

The leadership of Sacramento’s Equality Action Now, a local, grassroots civil rights organization and the Sacramento Gay and Lesbian Center are planning to respond to whatever ruling Judge Vaughn Walker decides in the case with a rally at the Sacramento G&L Center, 1927 L St.

LGBT Caucus Honors 40 Years of PrideLGBT Caucus

The California Legislature proclaimed June 2010 as LGBT Pride Month and celebrated the LGBT Community’s past accomplishments and contributions at a ceremony hosted by the Legislature's LGBT Caucus on Monday, June 14.

The Assembly used the occasion to honor eight LGBT individuals and the Prides of Los Angeles and San Francisco on the occasion of their 40th anniversaries. The honorees were selected from across the state for their lifetime contributions and accomplishments in creating a better future for California and the United States.
