Prop 8 Repeal Initiative Fails to Make 2010 Ballot

The effort to place an initiative on the November 2010 ballot to repeal Proposition 8 and restore equal marriage rights for same-sex couples failed to gather the 694,354 signatures necessary to place the proposed initiative on the ballot, ending the campaign.

Love Honor Cherish spearheaded the repeal effort and made the announcement on April 12, 2010, that they had been unsuccessful and vowed to work toward the repeal of Prop 8 at the next general election in November 2012.

Getting to Know Gay Beirut (and Beyond)Club Acid

San Francisco, Barcelona, Sydney, and … Beirut? Yalla Habibi! As surprising as it sounds, the buzz is building around Beirut, Lebanon as a gay destination.

The New York Times dubbed Lebanon’s capital “the Provincetown of the Middle East” in a 2009 article and the winter 2010 edition of Netherlands-based Winq magazine devoted eight pages to the city, citing its emergence as “the (gay) party capital of the Middle East.”

Did the Bareback Time Machine Kill Chad Noel?Chad Noel

Among the many online condolences to the family of Chad Noel (”Jim and Bonnie, so sorry to hear of the loss of your son…”) are glimpses of the boy this young man was, while growing up in the ironic hometown of Laramie, Wyoming (where Matthew Shepard lived and perished).

Noel, 25, died last month, reportedly of AIDS-related complications.

Fifth Annual Davis Feminist Film Festival Set to OpenThe Molky Way

The Consortium for Women and Research, in collaboration with Film Studies, is presenting the 2010 Davis Feminist Film Festival, a grassroots event that uses alternative media as a springboard for linking art to social issues.

The goal of the festival is to showcase independent film spanning documentary, narrative, and experimental genres in order to explore perspectives often missing from mainstream media and culture.
