Singer/songwriter Chely Wright - a celebrated figure in country music both for her artistry and her performances in front of American troops in Iraq and Afghanistan - admits in her memoir, LIKE ME: Confessions of a Heartland Country Singer (Pantheon Books), to keeping her sexuality a secret from her family, friends, fellow artists, and fans.

Simultaneously, with her memoir, Chely released her new record, Lifted off the Ground, produced by Rodney Crowell, a very personal album that was five years in the making.

Leading Ex-Gay Activist Caught On Vacation With 'Rent Boy'Rekers

The Miami New Times reported in its May 4, 2010 issue that on April 13, 2010, George Rekers, a major anti-gay figure, was encountered and photographed at Miami International Airport returning from an extended overseas trip with a twenty-year-old "rent boy."

According to the Miami New Times, Rekers took a young man he met on to Europe. In the article, the “rent boy” said that Rekers "likes younger guys to hang out with."

Hearings Held on Bill that Provides Tax Relief for Same Sex CouplesAssemblymember Kevin de León

Hearings have been held on AB 2735 that would protect some same sex couples from property tax increases on their home by the Assembly Revenue and Tax Committee. The hearings were held Monday, May 3, however a final decision on the bill, by the Committee, was put off until at least the week of May 9.

AB 2735, introduced by Assemblymember Kevin de León (AD 45), says that upon the death of one co-owner of property, the transfer of the deceased’s half of the property to the other co-owner, would not be a change of ownership. So, the death of one of the co-owners would not result in an increase in property taxes on the property.

Sacramento G&L Center Appoints New Executive Director

After a three-month search that included over fifty applicants, the Sacramento Gay & Lesbian Center has selected Wendy Rea Hill as its new Executive Director.

“We are excited that Wendy has accepted our invitation to serve as the new Executive Director,” said Gail Mancarti, the Center’s Board President. “We believe she brings the right combination of talents that will help us expand programs and make the Center a highly respected location for advocating and building our community.”
