Senator Arrested for DUI After Reportedly Leaving Midtown Gay Bar
by Charles Peer
State Senator Roy Ashburn was arrested by the California Highway Patrol on suspicion of driving drunk near the Capitol in downtown Sacramento, allegedly after leaving FACES Nighclub with another man who was with him in the car, but not arrested or named.
KOVR CBS 13 in Sacramento has reported that sources have told them that he was seen in FACES before he was arrested. However, Terry Sidie, the owner of FACES, said that he was in his club until about 1:30 in the morning that night and that he did not see Ashburn in the club, nor did his manager Laurie Bonifield or other FACES employees.
Chief Justice Roberts Protects DC Gay Marriage Law
Commentary by Boyce Hinman
I have long assumed that, with the advent of the new more conservative U.S. Supreme Court, that court would return to its long standing tradition of judging gay rights cases based on the prejudices of the justices rather than the facts and the constitution.
But yesterday, Chief Justice Roberts did something astonishing. He refused to prevent a Washington DC same sex marriage law from going into effect.

Bill Addresses Problems of Same Sex Divorce
Commentary by Boyce Hinman
AB 2700 has been introduced in the state legislator and is designed to ease the process of legally ending the relationships of registered domestic partners, and married same sex couples, in California. Sadly, sometimes this is necessary.
Here is why this bill is important. According to the Williams Institute, of the UCLA Law School, roughly 18,000 same sex couples got married legally in California between June 17, 2008 and when Proposition 8, which bans the recognition of such marriages, was passed on Election Day that year. Under a later ruling by the California Supreme Court, those marriages remain legal, and recognized under California law.
