The S.F. Silent Film Festival Returns

The 23rd San Francisco Silent Film Festival returns for 2018 to the beautiful Castro Theatre, this May 30–June 3 for five incredible days of classic cinema, with masterpieces from the silent film era set to glorious live music.

Exclusive screenings include Greta Garbo’s first starring role in the rare 1924 Swedish film “The Saga of Gosta Berling,” the great Buster Keaton as a weakling-turned-prizefighter in the 1926 boxing comedy “Battling Butler,” plus directorial efforts by such masters of the silent era as Carl Dreyer, Yasujiro Ozu, Ernst Lubitsch, and Paul Leni.

See A Movie This Weekend!

There is something for every taste playing at local movie theaters this weekend, including “The Rock” on a rampage, pandas in the wild, and a tribute to computer gamers and gaming.

If you haven’t seen it, “A Quiet Place” is the must-see horror hit that made more than $50 million its first weekend in the U.S. alone -- the best opening ever for a horror movie that isn’t a remake or a sequel.

Is “A Wrinkle In Time” Any Good?

We shall see if “A Wrinkle In Time” unseats “Black Panther” as the top film at the box office this weekend. I doubt that will happen, but Disney’s latest release should at least come in a strong second to “Panther.”

Believe it or not, there are other movies currently playing in theaters as well, although you wouldn’t know it, given the enormous hype around those two blockbusters. Read on for my latest film reviews.

Sacramento Kings Fifth Equality Night to Spotlight Work of Region’s LGBTQ Advocates and Leaders

When the Sacramento Kings host the New Orleans Pelicans at Golden 1 Center on Wednesday, March 7, the team, its foundation and dedicated fans will celebrate the Sacramento Region with their annual Equality Night game. The team has invited several local LGBTQ advocates, community members and partners to the team’s fifth Equality Night.

“Our mission to serve as an agent of change in our community continues as we open our doors with a warm welcome to Sacramento’s LGBTQ leaders and changemakers,” said Sacramento Kings Chief Operating Officer Matina Kolokotronis. “We’re honored to work with the diverse groups that represent the region throughout the season.”
