Bette Midler & Ben Platt Rock Broadway

The 2017 Tony Awards may be history, but most of this year’s nominated productions are still playing in New York City, and several of the winners are breaking records at the box office.

Better late than never, here are reviews of the eight musicals I saw during my annual pre-Tony’s trip to the Big Apple, where actors Bette Midler (‘Hello, Dolly!’) and Ben Platt (‘Dear Evan Hansen’) are the toast of the town.

Broadway’s ‘Falsettos’ Coming To The Tower Theatre

If you saw the Tony Awards this year, you got a tantalizing taste of the now-closed, limited Broadway engagement of ‘Falsettos,’ when the original cast of the gay-themed musical reassembled to perform a number from the show during the telecast.

Now, Live From Lincoln Center will present the entire Lincoln Center production of ‘Falsettos’ in cinemas, including Sacramento’s Tower Theatre, next Monday evening, July 17, at 7 p.m.

Bay Area Theater Bonanza

When the sweltering Sacramento summer gets too bad for me to bear, I head for the hills -- the Berkeley hills, that is, or the hilly streets of San Francisco.

During our recent 100*+ heat wave, I cooled off in the Bay Area with some musical theater.
