Outword’s Annual Arts and Entertainment Issue is Out Now!537

Our community certainly likes its performers and being entertained, so it’s no surprise that this has, historically, been a very popular issue for us. As you might expect, this issue is full of great arts and entertainment stuff, hence the name, as well some going-on-ings in and around Sacramento.

In just a few short weeks the Crest Theatre will play host to Sacramento’s own International Gay and Lesbian Film Festival, quite cleverly named, SIGLFF. The festival is three days long, and has five different filming programs this year. They have added a late night Friday program with adult content, and, of course, the very popular Saturday night Shorts return. We are expecting great things this year, so be sure to check out Chris Narloch’s review on page 20.

Outword Anniversary and Rainbow Festival, Like Peas and Carrots535

As you might be able to make out from the image in the “From the Publisher” in this issue, it is Outword’s anniversary, and another one for the Rainbow Festival as well. These two events have been going to together like peas and carrots for a long time. Our publisher, Fred Palmer, took to his computer and wrote a little bit about how LGBT media has been viewed in the past, and some of what we have to look forward to in the future. There is a lot to celebrate and on Sunday, September 6 we can all meet at the corner of 20th and K, for Rainbow Festival, and toast the good things to come.

Tears for Fears Graces the cover of Outword!534

80’s music nostalgia is alive and well here in 2015. All you need to do is look at the play roster for the local casinos to see bands you haven’t heard of in years, and years. But while they are good for a fun night wearing acid-washed denim skirts (you know who you are) and blue mohawks, very few 80’s bands have had the talent, or staying power of synth-pop legends, Tears for Fears.

Young Country Gets Cool533

Years ago, Reba McEntire hit is big with a song about being country, when country wasn’t cool. We cant say for sure if country has, since then, lost its cool, but with fresh, new talent, like Sam Hunt on the scene. Country music has really started to gain some street cred. Our own, Chris Narloch, has taken a listen Sam and Kacey Musgraves and has some great things to say about their music, their talent and more. Check it out on page 12.
