It’s a bird… it’s a plane…Nope! It’s our Local LGBTQ+ Heroes… and they’re pretty super!674

The new issue of Outword, Pride Two, Local LGBTQ+ Heroes is out now!

Kicking off the new issue, we’ve got the deets on Pride Month activities in Sacramento (this month) and Palm Springs (in November) on page 4.

You might think the best Pride parade would be in San Francisco or New York, but head over to page 6 and see what city was ranked #1. On page 8, read about Oakland Black Pride going on from June 24-27.

LA Pride checks in on page 9 with another update on some in-person events and volunteer opportunities, and Seattle Pride goes virtual on June 26-27, but plans for some in-person partying in October. For more information on that, head to page 12.

The Crocket Art Museum is ready to welcome you back, and there are many fun activities on their calendar for you to enjoy. Read about them on page 14. More Pride news on page 17, this time Northern Nevada comes OUTside, OUTloud, OUT&proud on July 24th.

If you’re not ready (or willing) to go outside just yet, you can check out the YouTube originals Global Pride Event with celeb emcees Demi Lovato, Olly Alexander with Mawaan Rizwan, Trixie Mattel, and Daniel Howell (more on page 18).

And with a flash, our Local LGBTQ+ Heroes swoop into save the day! Learn more about your local favorite figures in our community on pages 20 and 21. On page 23, the superhero theme continues with a look at some comic graphic novels created especially for Pride month and featuring icons such as: Dolly Parton, Cher, RuPaul and Lady Gaga.

The music goes on for the Sacramento Gay Men’s Chorus. They’re “getting the band back together” in person, beginning in August to rehearse for a holiday show planned for the end of this year! (Read all about it on page 24).

If you’re ready to check out some new movies, Chris Narloch has some new release updates on page 28: In the Heights, A Quiet Place II, to name a few. On page 29, Chris reports on upcoming virtual shows like Broadway Bares and Tales of the City: The Musical.

On page 34, read about Sacramento’s Latinx/Chicanx theatre company “Teatro Espejo” and their upcoming production “Frida”, a virtual play about the life of Frida Kahlo. And on page 35, life has resumed for Feinstein’s at the Nikko. They’ve got live performances scheduled for this summer. (Yay!)

Speaking of live, we hope to see you in the flesh at Badlands on Friday, June 18, when our monthly Liquid Therapy returns IN PERSON (see ad on page 38 for more info).

Until we meet again, check out the two book reviews, “Getting it Together” on page 38, and “Punch Me Up to the Gods: A Memoir” on page 39.

Happy Pride Month! Can’t wait to celebrate with all of you in person.
