Check Out Our Year In Review!
2021 was another tough year for most of us, but instead of focusing on the unpleasant, the staff at Outword decided to take a look back on all the wonderful things that happened. We ran some interesting stories, had some memorable covers, and as always, tried to bring you content and resources that you would find useful or valuable as a reader. Our look back begins on page 15.
The “West Side Story” remake is featured on this issue’s cover, and our Arts Editor Chris Narloch has the inside scoop on that movie and four other new films to enjoy if you have time off over the holidays. Mask up and support your local cinema! (page 19).
New year. New location. New executives. New GHC? The Gender Health Center (GHC), a transgender and POC-led nonprofit, is heading into the new year ready to hit the ground running. Find out more about the Gender Health Center on page 3, and on page 4 read what a trans Lutheran Bishop has to say about homosexuality and the Bible.
Outword & Badlands hosted our monthly Liquid Therapy (along with our annual toy drive for WEAVE) on December 10. If you missed it, photos from the event are on page 10, and if you were there, you might spot yourself in the pics!
Another major movie just out is “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” playing at Sacramento’s Esquire IMAX (page 11), and you can read about the “Sex and the City” reboot “And Just Like That…” currently streaming on HBO Max (featured on page 18).
For live entertainment options, check out page 21 for details on “The Woman in Black “(at the Strand Theater in San Francisco) and Broadway Sacramento’s “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” (at the SAFE Credit Union Performing Arts Center in Sacramento).
And just like that…it’s time to kick back and enjoy the rest of the year. Remember that over the next 10 days or so, calories don’t count, being kind is everything, and keep those gift receipts for crying out loud!
From all of us here at Outword Magazine, have a wonderful and safe holiday season, and catch our next issue (in 2022!) on January 13th.
