Outword Anniversary Issue 2024

Aug 21, 2024

Here at Outword, we like to give love to drag queens whenever possible, especially since they have been under attack recently. And since Bob The Drag Queen is bringing her beautiful self (and her tremendous talents) to Sacramento’s historic Crest Theatre this September, it seems like an even more perfect time to have her as our current cover model.

And what a cover image for our 29th anniversary issue! Yes, that’s correct, Outword Magazine has turned 29. Fred, the publisher, has some thoughts about that and shares them on page 2.

Our last issue of Outword was all about Kamala becoming the Democratic candidate for President of the United States, so this one we have highlighted her choice for Vice President to run alongside of her, Tim Walz. You can read about him on page 4 and beyond. It’s a good thing – even Secretary Pete thinks so!

Terri, the book lady, shares two books she recently reviewed regarding understanding and raising a trans child. Be sure to check that out on page 12.

Don’t miss the center spread! It’s all about Rainbow Festival that happens in the hood on September 1. It looks like they are gearing up for a super fun day!

You know that Chris Narloch will have some great entertainment stuff, right? Well, he doesn’t disappoint. He writes about four new movies, including one that Channing Tatum is a bad guy, on page 17. He also highlights some upcoming live performances, Bob the Drag Queen, Capital Dance Project and even CruiseFest, car cruising event.

Also, be sure to check out Matt Burlingame’s “Out & About” on page 22. There are some wonderful things happing around town, and he keeps you up to date about them.

Wrapping up this issue, on page 24, Cameron Yee writes about the upcoming bowling league and how you can get in on the fun. And, in ATB we have two pics of some great comfort breakfast food that was served up at Hot Off The Griddle in Natomas. Yum.

Don’t miss page 26 with our announcement of the Annual Pet Photo contest. Entries must be sent in by October 14, so you have lots of time to capture your little “cookie cutter” doing photogenic things.

Thanks for picking us up. Enjoy the remainder of this toasty summer, and be sure to take Outword along with you for those quiet times rockin’ on the front porch.
