Wicked Good!

Nov 26, 2024

As you can see, the lovely ladies of “Wicked,” Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, grace our latest colorful cover. Since last summer – at least – it has been impossible to avoid the onslaught of promotion for this big-screen blockbuster, which is the first half of a two-part adaptation of the Tony-winning stage musical. If you haven’t heard, the new movie is killing it at the box office and is a hit with critics as well.

Movies are a great way to spend time with your Republican relatives this holiday season – no talking (or singing) in the theater! – and you can discuss the film after it’s over rather than politics. Our own Chris Narloch has a short review of “Wicked” and two other holiday releases, including “Gladiator ll” starring the handsome trio of Paul Mescal, Pedro Pascal, and Denzel Washington, on page 19.

As you soar through the rest of this issue, you will find some great info about the quickly approaching World AIDS Day on pages 4 and 5, as well as a recap of Transgender Day of Remembrance on page 6. Thank you, Kayla for the images, sorry we couldn’t fit more. After that we touch on some politics and what might be coming our way (not a good thing) and then you touch down on a picture page from Outword’s November happy hour, Liquid Therapy that happens each month at Badlands. And just a quick plug, the December HH is our toy drive for WEAVE’s safe house. Come join the fun and if you can, bring a new unwrapped toy that will help make a child smile on Christmas. See page 14 for more details.

You will also find Disney on Ice, Crocker Holiday Artisan market, Downtown Ice Skating Rink is open and some fun, and different gift ideas from the great Mikey Rox on page 17.

Then we revisit Chris in Wonderland, where he is listening to some new-for-2024 holiday music. You can find his picks and a miss, on page 18. Just a click of your heals farther and you get to Matthew Burlingame’s “Out and About” column. Lots of fun things to fully experience, right here in the river city.

As always, there is so much more.

We would like to, again and always, thank our advertisers, both new and vintage, for being part of the Outword family. In these unsecure times, be sure to check out the back page a ad from Diamond Defense. They can help you prepare for the great unknown. Well, maybe not all of it, but certainly some.

Take the best care of yourselves and your loved ones. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving and we will see you next on December 12, just a day or so before the toy drive at happy hour…
Now, go! Defy gravity.
