We totally understand. It’s becoming increasingly difficult to pay attention to anything but the chaos happening around us. But we’d like to share our latest issue of Outword Magazine. This themed issue is one of our favorites—our annual Homes and Gardens issue—and it’s online now. We hope you’ll stop doomscrolling for just a little while and give us some of your time as we try to inform and entertain you with stories that speak to and interest our community.
Once you get past the cover, you’ll notice a couple of articles about conversion therapy and some of the things happening right now around that issue. While it’s no fun, it’s definitely something everyone should be aware of, and we’d like to thank those who reached out with thoughts and information regarding this terrible practice.
Since this is our Homes and Gardens issue, we included a little blurb about Earth Day, coming up on April 22. We also have an article about homes and the clash between seeing them as places to live versus items in a portfolio. And just in time for this issue, KitchenAid has given its iconic stand mixer a makeover—you can read about that on page 7.
On page 8, we bring you information about the LGBT Center’s plans to refurbish its existing building to better align with its mission. It looks like it’s going to be something special.
On page 9, we’re featuring an article about a company with a strange name from Sweden that makes slipcovers for another Swedish company. It’s something we’ve wanted to cover for quite some time, and we hope you find some inspiration.
A little farther back, you’ll find information about the Drag Your Balls golfing event hosted by Sunburst Projects. Those folks stay busy doing amazing work while still managing to have some fun in the process. This year’s event should be a great time.
For all things entertainment, Chris Narloch brings several interesting tidbits—from a Frida exhibit at the Crocker, to the Michael Jackson musical from Broadway Sacramento, and four films you can watch, or stream right now.
Our own Fred was in San Francisco over Easter weekend, where he attended an unofficial holiday event and captured several images of a festive—and, shall we say, irreverent—crowd. And Jules the Mixologist returns with a spritz of life—be sure to check that out on page 23.
We certainly couldn’t forget Matthew Burlingame’s Out and About column. With plenty of fun things to do in and around town, you can read all about it on page 25.
Of course, as always, there’s much more to see in this exciting issue of Outword. Click through to our website to read the issue online via ISSUU, or download the full PDF to enjoy at your leisure—whether you’re connected to the internet or not.
Again, thank you for spending time with us. We hope this issue—and every issue—offers a little reprieve from the noise, or at least a welcome distraction.
