Elvira Comes OUT!

Oct 14, 2021

Mistress Elvira

Our favorite Mistress of the Dark, Elvira, graces our cover and ushers in our latest issue, just as the winds pick up and the temperature gets a little chilly outside. Yes, it’s October and fall is definitely in the air.

We got coverage of three different area Pride celebrations, the Placer County caravan on page 5, one at the Merced Center on page 6, and rounding it all out on page 8, news about the Palm Springs Pride Parade and the Grand Marshal for this year.

Lots of events are back on in Downtown Sacramento such as Movies Under the Stars, the Sacramento Ice Rink, and the Theatre of Lights (details on page 10). For autumn and Halloween-themed fun, check out page 11 and catch a ride on the “Spookomotive”, trick-or-treat at Fairytale Town, and do the Monster Mash at the Crocker Art Museum!

More entertainment options abound on page 12, as you can head out to the Bay area to scare yourself to death via San Francisco’s “The Importal Reckoning” or San Jose’s “All Hallows’ Eve” at the ever-creepy Winchester Mystery House. Locally, “Evil Dead the Musical” returns to Folsom for it’s 11th annual production at the Sutter Street Theatre (page 15).

The Seventh Annual Farm-2-Scholar VIP Dinner to benefit the Rainbow Chamber Foundation was held at Benson Ferry Farms on Sept 25 and photos of the sold-out event can be found on page 17.

Sacramento’s CA Museum has a fun series of events planned around Dia de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) including live music, artists’ discussion, and even a sugar skulls workshop (see page 18), and details about our cover woman coming OUT on page 19 with Cassandra (aka Elvira, Mistress of the Dark) Peterson’s new memoir “Yours Cruelly, Elvira.”

Closing out this issue is coverage of Sacramento Trans Visibility Day, a celebration that took place at Crocker Park last Saturday (page 20).

PS: Don’t forget to submit your pet photos to us for our next issue. We’ve got prize money and gift cards up for grabs for the cutest fur babies (or others). Send the pics to graphics@outwordmagazine.com for your chance to win. Deadline is October 15!
